History & Staff

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

Our History

The Dinan Funeral Homes were established in 1890 by Frank T. Dinan an Irish immigrant who after arriving in Philadelphia quickly found out that there was a need for caring and compassionate funeral service. Shortly after, he opened the first Dinan location which was a modest row home on 19th street in Philadelphia. Frank's goal was to provide the best service possible at an affordable price to all he was priveledged to serve. After several years, his goal was realized and he became the trusted name in the neighborhood. Of course there were other funeral homes in the same area, however Frank's personal attention to each family is what made the Dinan name stand out. As the business grew, Frank realized that he needed to grow with it and moved the funeral home to Spring Garden Street. As time went on and his daughter Anna became involved, more and more families requested their services. It was finally decided to move once again to our present location.

Today, as in 1890, our family still operates the business every day and families can rest assured that they will meet with one of our family. Frank's grandson Francis Timothy (Tim) Dinan is the owner and President, and Frank's great grandson Christopher J. Dinan manages the day to day operations in Philadelphia. Another great grandson Francis Timothy (Tim) Dinan Jr. assists in the day to day operations at our suburban location Shelly-Dinan Funeral Home in Lansdale. Although we have grown and expanded, one thing remains the same as when Frank opened his doors over 120 years ago; and that is that our family will provide the best possible service at an affordable price to each and every family we are honored to serve. Let's face it, Frank wouldn't have it any other way!
