Elizabeth Mary "Betty" Mooney

With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the sudden passing of Elizabeth Mary “Betty” Mooney (nee McGrath), age 88, on May 25, 2026. She departed this life peacefully surrounded by the love and prayers of her family and friends. Born on June 19, 1937 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Betty lived a life defined by kindness, strength, grace, and unwavering devotion to her family. She touched countless lives with her warm heart, gentle spirit, wisdom, and compassion. To know her was to experience unconditional love, sincere friendship, and a comforting presence that made everyone feel welcome. Betty was a devoted wife of 66 years, loving mother, proud grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, cherished sister, aunt, and loyal friend. Her greatest joy in life was caring for those she loved and creating lasting memories with family. She was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Parish where she attended Mass regularly. She enjoyed summer vacations with her family at the Jersey Shore throughout her life. Known to relish watching a good Phillies game, she could occasionally be “diverted” to the casino to test her Luck of the Irish. Betty spent over 30 years working in the production department of Smith Kline Pharmaceutical Company. Upon her retirement, she and her husband, Dan, found great joy watching the children of local working parents and simply became known as “Gram and Pop.” She will be remembered for her light-hearted sense of humor, her will and desire to do for others, and her innate spirit of generosity. She is survived by her children, Theresa Magee (Wally Osborne) , Daniel Mooney Jr., Michael Mooney, Sr. (Elaine Pearl) and sister, Catherine Bosler, along with seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren in addition to many extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory. She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Mooney Sr.; parents, William and Anna McGrath; son, Joseph Mooney; grandsons, Dennis Magee Jr. and Michael Mooney Jr., and nine siblings. Though our hearts are broken by this unexpected loss, we take comfort in knowing her legacy of love, faith, and family will continue through all who knew and loved her. Her beautiful spirit will remain with us always. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 24th and Green Streets. Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. “Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.” - Alex MacLean
