George J. (Shock) Fulmer

George J. "Shock" Fulmer, 97, of Fairmount section of Philadelphia, died December 17, 2020. He is survived by his loving daughter Denise Lagocki (Peter Shelinsky), Loving son Michael Fulmer (Margaret (Margie) (Carpenter) Fulmer. Grandchildren; Tara Maines (Danny Maines), Colleen Lagocki (Jimmy Dougherty), Rachel Barr (Kevin Barr), great-grandchildren Ryann Rhoades-Maines, Daniel Maines, Colin Barr, James Dougherty,3d, Ayden Dougherty, sister--in-law Joan Fulmer. Preceded in death by loving wife Catherine P. (Ginder)Fulmer, parents Frank C. and Marie F. (Hagan) Fulmer, son-in-law Richard G. (Shorty) Lagocki, grandson Michael Fulmer, great-grandsons, Kevin P. Barr, Jr. and Sean M. Barr, brother Frank C. (Reds) Fulmer, Jr., sisters; Nancy Wilmarth (Frank) and Mary (Betty) Freeland (Harry). George was a World War II veteran, US Army Private from May 17, 1943 to October 1, 1945. He was a Medic and worked as a frontline infantry administering first aid to wounded combat troops under enemy fire. He was overseas for 23 months with 10 months frontline duty in the European Theater. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star which read: Headquarters 5th Infantry Division Office Of Commanding Officer Private George J. Fulmer, Medical Detachment, 11th Infantry Regiment, United States Army. For distinctive service in connection with military operations against the enemy on September 8, 1944 near Dornot, France. During a terrific barrage of enemy automatic and small arms fire resulting in numerous casualties among our personnel attempting an assault crossing of the Mosselle River, Private Fulmer, a litter bearer with utter disregard for personal safety and completely exposed to the intense enemy fire, succeeded in swimming from the far shore to the near shore, recovering an assault boat and re-crossing the river by means of the assault boat and assisting in the successful evacuation of his wounded comrades to a place of comparative safety on friendly shore, Due to the actions of Private Fulmer, the lives of the wounded were saved and much of their pain and suffering alleviated. Private Fulmer's courage and high devotion to duty reflects great credit on himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of our armed forces. Entered military service from Pennsylvania. Army Commanding He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7650 (Service Officer), Member of Catholic War Veterans, Past Member American Legion Post 850, and Member of Sports All Timers/ Brewerytown/Fairmount/Cathedral/Navy Schuylkill. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., on December 23, 2020 in St. Francis Xavier Church the Oratory, 24th & Green Streets, Phila. Friends may call at the Dinan Funeral Home, 1921-23 Spring Garden St., Phila. on Tuesday, December 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Interment Valley Forge Memorial Gardens,, 352 S. Gulph Rd., King of Prussia, PA DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS FACE MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE FOLLOWED.
