Mrs. Bettye Jean McAllister Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Bettye Jean( Wideman) McAllister, was born August 23, 1949 in the Promise Land area of Greenwood county South Carolina to Betty Lou Wideman and Joe Lee Holloway. She graduated from Brewer High School of Greenwood and later attended and graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte North Carolina. She also obtained a Masters Degree in Urban Education from Saint Joseph University. On December 26, 1972 she married Leroy C. McAllister and from that union was born Ebonee Monique McAllister an Michelle Denise McAllister. Bettye worked in a variety of jobs including investigator for the Office for Civil Rights of the Department of Health and Human Services, a teacher and social worker. She also sold real estate and was a Mary Kay Representative. Bettye made her transition to the after life, peacefully at home, on Friday, May 20, 2022. She was preceded in death by three siblings; Bobby Lee Wideman, Harold Holloway and Fredie Holloway. Bettye is survived by her husband of fifty years, Leroy C. McAllister, two daughters, Ebonee McAllister Spencer and Michelle D. McAllister, five grandchildren; Arianna Spencer, Cameron Spencer, John W. Spencer and Giselle White. Bettye is also survived by her brother Ronnie Wideman, one aunt Margaret Smith of Greenwood South Carolina and two sisters-in-law; Willie Mae Wideman of Greenwood South Carolina and Reverend Patricia McAllister of Downingtown Pennsylvania. There are a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends to mourn her death. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 4, 2022, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Dinan Funeral Home, 1923 Spring Garden St., Phila., PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the NAACP , 4805 Mt. Hope Drive, Baltimore, MD 21215.
