Mrs. Catherine Hruska

July 17, 1921 - April 15, 2016

Catherine Hruska, 94, formerly of New Castle, PA, died suddenly of a cardiac arrest at Cherry Hill Senior Living in Cherry Hill, NJ on April 15, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband William John Hruska, her sister Mary Nieswiadomy, and brothers Michael and John Fugas. Mrs. Hruska was born July 17, 1921 in New Castle, PA to Mary and Thomas Fugas. She was a long time member of Mary, Mother of Hope Roman Catholic Church and a devoted citizen of "New Castle." She loved her town and her many friends in New Castle. Catherine worked for many years at Shenango China, retiring from the factory in 1986. One o her earliest jobs was working as a "Bomb Girl" during the war, when she worked at Johnson Bronze making bomb noses. She also worked as a waitress at Augustine's in the early years of Augustine Pizza. She was a feisty and spirited woman who survived many obstacles in her life, including the devastating house explosion in 2006 when she lived at Franklin Avenue. Catherine made friends wherever she went. Most people will remember her for her kindness and generosity to all, including needy strangers. Catherine loved playing bingo, going on casino trips and traveling with her family. She and Bill went on many wonderful family cruises over the years. She was an avid crocheter and baker of pies, chocolate chip cookies and pitzels. Catherine is survived by her son Tom (Arlene) of Denver, North Carolina and daughter Renee (Greg) of Cherry Hill, NJ. She had two grandsons; Michael Lenhart and Christian Cantwell, two great-granddaughters; Cameron Cantwell and Ashley Lenhart, her sister-in-law Julia Fugas, two nieces; Deborah and Margaret Anne Fugas, and nephew John Fugas. Catherine will be desperately missed by her family, her many friends in New Castle, and any and all who knew and loved her. There will be a viewing at Dinan Funeral Home, 1921-23 Spring Garden St., Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday evening, April 20 from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., and a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. Her ashes will be taken to her beloved town of New Castle where she will remain near her husband Bill at Castleview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for Disabled American Veterans, Mary Mother of Hope Parish in New Castle, or your favorite charity. NOTE: PLEASE NOTE THAT VIEWING IS FROM 5 TO 6:30 P.M. BUT PRAYER SERVICE IS A 6 P.M.
