Mr. Frank G. Fimmano
November 28, 1929 - June 24, 2020
Frank G. Fimmano, age 90 years, died Wednesday, June 24, 2020 in Abington Hospital-Lansdale. He was born November 28, 1929 in Utica, NY. Frank is survived by his daughter Linda (Fimmano) Junkin, 5 grandchildren; Frank G. Fimmano, James W. Junkin, Stacy Fimmano, Rozelinda Pastor (Junkin) and Jennifer Fimmano, 3 great-grandchildren; Florence, Emily and Ella; his sister Jacqueline Colicci, and all of his loving nieces and nephews. His fourth great- granddaughter will be born in September. He is now joined in heaven with his son David Francis Fimmano, who sadly passed away suddenly in 1998. Frank was born and raised in Utica, New York. He graduated from Proctor High School in 1947. He married his High School sweetheart Margaret Mollie Klepadlo in 1952. Frank served in the Korean War 1951-1953 as a radio operator. While in Korea he helped to build and protect an air base while he was overseas. He was outside his barracks early one morning, and saw Ted Williams crash land at his airbase. He was a TV repairman early in his career. He loved to tinker with anything electronic, although at home, it often took him forever to fix things. His workbench was always full of wires, tubes circuit boards and guts of radios, TV's and sometimes toasters. Frank worked for General Electric in Radio Communications for many years. In 1958, he won the highest ever award in the history of GE's Communication Product Division for his new idea adopted by the company, and he had his picture taken with Ronald Reagan. While working at GE he was transferred from Utica, to Lynchburg VA, to Pittsburg, and ultimately to Philadelphia, PA where he became a die-hard-Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and Penn State fan. It was always tough to interrupt him during the "ballgame." He embraced new technology and liked to try out the latest gadgets. He bought one of the first personal computers, building it from a kit. A pioneer in the cell phone industry, he started a small business installing mobile "car" phones in the early days, and he ran his own small business, MRD Communications, until 1999. After he officially retired from his company, he was employed at Walmart for 12 years until he finally decided it was time to retire. Frank was always there for his family, and he had a huge and generous heart. He loved filming his son's high School football games at Pennsbury High School. He was a wicked Pinochle, Scrabble, and Bocce player. He also invented several games that his family enjoyed. He owned a 1958 Austin Healy and always said he wished he still had that car. He liked to work with his hands, and often took on DIY projects. He also liked to sew and do crafty things. He made cedar chests for the girls, and cradles for his first grandchildren. He liked to ski, and learned the sport on long wooden Northlands with bear trap bindings when he was a teenager. He served as President of the Trenton Ski Club in the 1960's. He loved Big Band music and Opera. Frank could eat pasta every day of the week, and loved the amazing Italian pastries from his hometown in Utica, NY. Christmas shopping trips with his daughter were a big deal, (although usually done at last minute) as he always wanted to make sure he got the right presents for his grandchildren. Most of all, Frank loved his family and especially his children, grandkids, and his great-grandkids. There are a lot of things we will miss, including his sharp mind, his sense of humor, and his stubborn independence. Especially we will miss how his face lit up every time he saw his grandkids and great-grandkids. Relatives and friends are invited to a Gathering and Remembrance of his life on Friday, July 3, 2020 in the Shelly-Dinan Funeral Home, 24 E. Main St., Lansdale, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers please send donations in Frank's name to charity of your choice.
