John (Jack) P. McGrath

John (Jack) P. McGrath of Philadelphia passed away on April 13, 2021. He was the son o the late John and Jean McGrath (nee Colamtura). Jack attended St. Helena School and St. Joseph's Preparatory School. He graduated from LaSalle College and served in the Army. He worked and retired from the Federal Housing Authority. After retirement he volunteered at the Gesu School as a classroom aid and never missed a day. He was a parishioner at Saint Helena in Olney, Saint James in Elkins Park and most recently the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul. Jack was the proud godfather to James Nickels and Joseph Amons. He was a loving cousin to family here and in Ireland, an uncle, great-uncle and a good friend to many. He traveled the world and Ireland was his second home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jack on Saturday, April 24th at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul (Main Church), 1723 Race Street on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 10 -11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack's name to The Little Sisters of the Poor, Holy Family Home, Philadelphia PA.
