Br. John J. McLane, S.J.

Remembering Br. John McLane, SJ, Teacher and Consultor at Saint Joseph's University and Therapist for the Mentally Disabled. Brother John J. McLane, SJ, was born in Scranton, PA on January 29, 1938. He entered the Society of Jesus at the Novitiate of St. Isaac Jogues in Wernersville, PA, in 1959 and took his final vows as a Jesuit Brother in April 1978. Br. McLane spent nearly 25 years at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. After serving as assistant to the minister and manager of food services in the '70's, he taught business at the University's Comey Institute through the 80's. He also served as a consultor of financial aid. In 1992, Br. McLane began a 13 - year tenure as a therapist at Philadelphia's Care Link, a support services organization dedicated to helping those with mental disabilities. He then served for ten years at Manresa Hall Jesuit Community as a pastoral and social assistant. In 2016, Br. McLane moved to the Colombiere Jesuit Community in Baltimore to pray for the Church and the Society of Jesus. He died January 30, 2019 at Campion Health Center in Weston, Mass., the day after his 81st birthday. Br. was the son of the late Thomas McLane and Mary Thornton of Scranton, PA. In addition to his Jesuit brothers, he is survived by nieces and nephews.
