Mr. Thomas P. "Tom" Muldoon, Sr.
August 2, 1935 - August 29, 2015
Thomas P. Muldoon "Tom" Muldoon, Sr. 80, a lifelong resident of the Fairmount section of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, August 29, 2015. As was his spirit, he fought to the end and simply went to seep surrounded by his family. A long time Inquirer employee (Teamsters Local 628), he retired at age 65 and spent the last 15 years enjoying life fishing in his boat plying the waters around Cape May, NJ throughout the Spring and Summer, and then heading to the mountains of Upstate PA for hunting season. Although he loved these activities, it was the time spent with family and friends on the water or in the cabin that he cherished the most. His true love was his family: his children; Thomas P. Muldoon, Jr., Esq., and Anne Marie Muldoon, D.C., and especially his grandchildren; Lauren Muldoon, Steven Muldoon, Ben Muldoon, and Daniel DiStasio. He is also survived by his younger siblings; Robert Muldoon (Mary Jane), Catherine "Cassie" McCaughey, Vincent Muldoon, Maryanne Kane, and Jeanie ":GeeGee" Smith (William "Reds"), as well as dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews, in addition to countless friends. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army's prestigious 82nd Airborne Division, Tom earned his jump wings at Ft. Bragg, NC. He made numerous successful jumps and even survived a plane crash. Looking back, he would say that was the one time that he really should have jumped. He proudly wore his 82nd Airborne baseball hat "all the way" to the end, finally handing it off to his youngest grandson, Daniel, for safekeeping. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Friday, September 4 at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church the Oratory, 24th & Green Sts., Phila. Int. private. Friends may call at the Dinan Funeral Home, 1921-23 Spring Garden Sts., Phila. on Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and also on Friday morning from 8 to 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made payable to the 82nd Airborne Association of Philadelphia, P.O.B. 190, Glen Mills, PA 19342 to help with the care and treatment of injured Southeastern PA 82nd Airborne members.
